Adventure through the Elements

The Elements are a core part of our everyday world.
Earth.  Water.  Fire.  Air.
Elements are the building blocks of all creation.
Relating with the EcoSystem of the Moment
through its Elemental Components
opens amazing portals for self-reflection
and expanded appreciation for life.

This blog highlights aspects of the Elements
to inspire your own Wild Soul Wanderings.
May this information deepen your explorations
of the world both around & within you.
Featured here as well is my photography & SoulCollage.
Each element vibrates at a different frequency,
and has its own unique expression of Life Force.

As we apprentice to Elemental Teachings from nature
we are able to work with elemental qualities within us
our own being as well,
on Physical, Mental & Spiritual levels;
As Above. So Below.
Let's journey through the Elements
and explore some of their fundamental properties.

Earth is the foundation upon which you live.
Earth is dense & solid.
It has shape & form; edges & boundaries.
It is the manifest realm of being.
The flesh & bones of embodiment.
Earth grounds Essence into Form.
Hoh River, Washington State
Water is a true Shape Shifter.
It expands & contracts; Liquid, Solid, Gas.
Ocean. Rain. Tears. Sweat. Blood.
It Dissolves. It Melts.
It Cleanses. It Destroys.
Water is the elixir that sustains life on this planet.
Valley View Hot Springs, Colorado
Fire does not follow the pathway of least resistance.
It rises up against forces of gravity.
It lights & burns its own path.
Fire transforms matter
into Heat, Light & Energy.
Fire is the true element of Alchemy.
Anza Borrego Desert; California
Breath is life force energy.
Your first inhalation & last exhalation
are experiences that bracket your life.
Inhalations bring oxygen into your body,
Exhalations release carbon dioxide to the planet.
Together, oxygen breathing animals & plants
create the Respiratory System of the planet.
We breathe life into being.
Explore Your World
Notice traits of the elements around you
and also how these traits are present in you.

Adventures of Little Red

The fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood"
is a powerful initiation tale
into a Hero's Journey.
It's also a story that can be used
as a roadmap for exploring & healing
early childhood experiences.

Ultimately, Little Red is a tale
about the loss of innocence,
something that happens to all of us
as we move through childhood.

This blog highlights aspects
of Little Red Riding Hood,
along with some of my SoulCollage creations
highlighting how this tale represents
aspects of my personal journey in life.
Little Red is a tale of a young girl,
sent into the woods by her mother.
She has a basket of goodies
she is taking to her Grandmothers house
which is located deep in the woods.

This is Little Red's first solo venture
into the Wild Woods of Life.
Her mother told her to stay on the path
and go directly to Grandmothers.
However, Little Red veers off course
and explores beautiful flowers
blooming deeper in the woods.

It is in these woods where Little Red
meets a trickster...
a Wolf with devious intentions.
Little Red in all her innocence
tells the Wolf where she is going
and what she is doing.

Wolf runs to grandmothers house
to get there before Little Red.
He devours the Grandmother,
puts on her nightgown
and waits in bed
for Little Red to arrive.

When Little Red gets there,
she is coaxed into bed with Wolf,
at which time he talks about
all his big body parts.
Then he devours her.
...just in the nick of time,
a Woodsman passing by
sees the carnage taking place.
He kills Wolf,
cuts Grandmother & Little Red
out of its stomach,
and they all live happily ever after.

There's another ending to the tale as well;
once they are cut out
Grandmother & Little Red
trick the Wolf into a pot of boiling water
and they kill him.

Either way, this tale offers an opportunity
to look at times we have veered off course,
the tricksters we have met along the way,
times we have needed rescue,
and the wisdom we have gained
from our life experiences.

My Hero's Journey
During my childhood, my Grandmother
was a bright light in my world.
I loved going to her home
and eating food with her.

She made darkness in other parts of life
dim for a period of time.
She was an angel to me.

When I was 14, my parents moved me
from San Diego to Oklahoma;
separating me from my Grandmother.
It was a sad separation for both of us.

I lived with my parents for a few years
in Oklahoma. It was terrible.
I left them and set out on my own.
Homeless & Alone for several years
I met several dark wolves along the way,
to which I paid steep prices
for survival & passage.

This phase of my journey
exposed me to fangs, it drew blood,
and brought me face-to-face with
that which wanted to consume me.
Many wolves pounced & tried to kill me.
Some nearly succeeded.

Eventually, I found my way
back to my Grandmothers house.
She was sick when I found her.
I became her caregiver,
tending to her for years as she prepared to die.

Journeying to Grandmothers house
has been a powerful theme in my life;
both in childhood and throughout my first adulthood.
Here is a SoulCollage card I created
to honor our amazing love & connection.
Little Red Grows Up
The part left out of the fairy tale of
Little Red Riding Hood
was a glimpse into her life when she grew up,
and all the defense mechanisms
she had as an adult
from her traumas in the woods!!

 In my personal story,
pain from the thorns of traveling
through the dark woods of my early life
created a protective container around me.
I had some pretty solid defense mechanisms
in place, all with the objective:
Keep Wolves (Men) Away.

guarded the door to my life
quite aggressively...
and during this process,
found a Wolf living inside me.
After years of therapy & healing,
my inner wolf became a trusted ally,
a sacred protector, a guide & an advisor.
Primal animal instincts within me
that lead the way.

As I grew to love the Wolf within me,
I was then able to see & appreciate
the duality of Wolf inside all of us;
the Wolf that preys
and the Wolf that guides & protects.

Knowing this duality
supported me in opening up to life,
and being a bit more trusting of men.
Utilizing the container of a Fairy Tale
to explore ones life journey
is a wonderful way to find deeper meaning
and inspiration from the experiences you've had.

Creating SoulCollage cards to honor the process
is AMAZING as well.
It bring the fairy tale alive even more,
and supports you with honoring
the mytho-poetic aspect of your Hero's Journey.

The Colorful Chakra System

One of the core maps I use to navigate
the various terrains of life
is the Chakra System.

The structure of Chakra philosophy
has provided & aided me into & through
many deep healings in my life.

The map of the Chakras
has helped me engage & honor my body,
heal addiction & heart aches,
find more love in my relationships,
and connect more fully with God Divine.

The "system" of this model
appeals to my imagination
and encourages expansive creativity
in how I live & create my life.

This blog highlights some of the ways
Chakras inform my life,
along with some of my SoulCollage.

The Genius & Genesis of the Chakra System
originated through yogic traditions
and ancient Sanskrit teachings
many centuries ago.

Over the years,
as Yoga came to the West,
Chakra teachings merged
with other life philosophies,
and a new system of medicine & inspiration
found language in our culture.

Chakras have become common reference points
for many people on their spiritual paths today.
Myself Included.
...and I am excited to share with you.

All Things Are Energy
A fundamental concept of the Chakra System
is that all things are made of energy.
A key aspect of energy is that it moves
in different waves & patterns.
This expression can be easily be seen
in the colors of a Rainbow.

Each color in a rainbow
vibrates at a different frequency.
Red is the slowest vibrating color
whereas Blue vibrates at a higher frequency.

Each color frequency has its own resonance;
its own character of vibration & energy.
These varying color waves correspond
to different Chakra portals
into your Central Nervous System,
thereby, influencing your being in many ways.

Charkas are so much more then colors,
however, working with Color Therapy
is a great way to play with the chakras
and explore the effect light has on your being.

Color Adventure
What a gift we have with sight.
And what a blessing color offers our journey
through this beautiful world.

Light expresses itself as color.
So bring increased awareness to color in your life.
Notice the magic each color offers
and have fun seeing the world
 in a more colorful way.

Here are some recommendations
to support your journey with color.

 - Notice color in your life.
- What feelings do certain colors evoke in you?

- Pick a color a day to explore. Wear that color.
- Notice that color in your surroundings.

- What colors are abundant in your world?
- What colors are missing from your world?

- Get a box of crayons, pens, pencil or paint.
- Draw - Paint
Have fun with color.
- Use "odd" colors in your drawings.
(like..purple trees, or rainbow people)
- Have fun. Let Creativity Flow.
- Let your Inner Child Play.

Cultivating Heart Flame

Last night in my Shaman's Circle, during our invocation drum journey, I experienced the embodied imagery of a lit candle in my solar plexus.

The candle was small, like a birthday candle for a cake. I felt called to grow this power in me, and asked spirit for the courage and ability to grow this candle force in my belly.

The candle immediately grew in width and height, taking up the whole circumference of my abdomen. The increased height of the candle raised the flame up into my heart space.

With this increase in power potential and light force, I was reminded that a candle needs wax to burn, it need a fuel source to continue burning its flame.

My daily practice is the fuel source for my heart flame. My daily practice of meditation, bodywork, gratitude, time in nature, SoulCollage, presence, love, authenticity, living in alignment with soul...this is the fuel that keeps my flame alive and vibrant.

If my practice diminishes, the height of my candle will lower, bringing the flame back down into the abdomen, keeping me striving from a place of adolescence grasping and egoic limitation. These energetics may have served me well historically, however now it is time to live from the flame of the heart. To do this, it is imperative that I engage commitment and accountability to a daily practice that adds fuel to the flame of my inner fire. This practice will keep the height of my inner candle flame in my heart space and light my way in life from this central source.

Here is one of my recent SoulCollage creations that honors this intention of living. It reminds me to engage my daily practice as a tool to continually add fuel to my heart flame. My hearts desire is to live my life as a beautiful service to the living of beauty and intentionality in this world, and to do so with embodied grace and enlivened presence

  • What imagery encourages you to expand into wider realms of fullness?
  • What soul work is calling to be honored and realized through your living?
  • How can you rise you up from the personal into wider realms of service to the collective?
